About Us

The Country Baker was started back in 1994 when I tasted the most deliciously light and fluffy piece of bread I have ever had! It was milled in a grain mill and kneaded in a Bosch Universal Mixer owned by a friend of mine. I couldn't believe how tasty the bread was but the 'lightness' of the texture was what really intrigued me. This was bread that my children would eat sandwiches from! After seeing how the entire process worked, (it only took 1 ½ hours from start to finish!) I knew I had to have these machines!

Convincing my husband would be a task but I knew if I could just get him to taste the bread, I would soon be the proud owner of a Bosch Mixer and a Grain mill and so it goes!
Our enthusiasm for great tasting bread (the kind that the kids eat the crust on!) immediately led into the creation of The Country Baker. Originally starting out as a small 'hobby' business, it's grown full-force and we now offer a wide-range of products for the home baker.
I love to teach bread classes either in my home or we will sometimes travel as a family to a small church, home or home school gathering. Classes are arranged for adults or children. Contact me for more information on setting up a class. Bread baking is such a joy, especially with children. My daughter, started her own little baking business using the Bosch Universal all by herself(including clean-up!) when she was 9 years old!

Health wise, my family has improved dramatically over the years simply by incorporating whole grains into the diet and cutting down on junk food. I no longer rely on pre-packaged crackers, cookies, snacks, cereals etc. I bake all of our bread, cookies, cakes and snacks from scratch using the Bosch mixer and freshly milled whole grain flour. It saves a lot of money in the long run as a loaf of bread costs approximately .75 cents in ingredients to make.

We have had many testimonials over the years from people that have improved health since milling and baking their own whole grain breads and baked goods. People have reported to us that they've lowered their cholesterol, (most likely from the added benefit of fiber in the bread) moved their bowels more regularly, (or too much, sometimes it takes the body a little while to adjust!) reduced cravings, felt more satisfied when snacking and saved money on their grocery bill! I used to have to serve meat to my husband at every meal until I started baking whole wheat bread. Now I can serve a Meat-less soup with the whole grain bread and he's full and satisfied and doesn't seem to miss the meat. The whole wheat bread is much more filling than the chemically laden store bought junk. We often receive reports from people that their kids are filling up on homemade bread instead of lots of junk food. We've also had reports that some were allergic to the mold on the wheat instead of the wheat itself and that by milling the grain fresh, they were able to once again include wheat into their diet. Milling grain fresh is so important! Some studies have shown that rancidity takes place in as little as 3 days.

Consider what Isaiah 28:28-29 says, "Grain must be ground to make bread; so one does not go on threshing it forever. Though he drives the wheels of his threshing cart over it, his horses do not grind it. All this also comes from the Lord almighty, wonderful in counsel and magnificent in wisdom."

Homemade whole wheat bread has over 26 vitamins and nutrients in it including: Bran, vitamin E, calcium, iron, B-vitamins, folic acid, magnesium and much more!

One of the best parts of baking your own bread is never having to figure out what to have to give as gifts to people anymore! Who would refuse a gift of home made bread or soft whole-wheat dinner rolls to warm the heart? I absolutely love giving home made cookies or cakes made from freshly milled whole grain flour to people that, in some cases, never suspect that it is 'good for them!'

As you endeavor to change your family's eating habits to healthier ones, please contact me via email or phone if you have any questions pertaining to baking. I would love to hear from you!

Blessings and Happy baking!

Denise
